Global meta-analysis: Sparse tree cover increases grass biomass in dry pastures

چکیده
Agricultural and ecological droughts, extreme heat aridity have high impacts on livestock pasture systems worldwide. Finding ways to adapt production increase biomass under these new conditions is urgently needed. The availability of tree shade in pastures could potentially ameliorate the warm weather. Yet, effects cover productivity rangelands are hotly debated. We performed a global meta-analysis evaluate grass during contrasting seasons within same system along environmental gradients tropical temperate productive systems. also assessed levels canopy density at which observable. observed that trees facilitate dry seasons, especially tropics regions. These positive more likely occur intermediate evapotranspiration irradiance. Our findings suggest integrating might resilience current drier warmer conditions.

Agroforestry systems and tree cover on agricultural land make an important contribution to climate change mitigation, but are not systematically accounted for in either global carbon budgets or national carbon accounting. This paper assesses the role of trees on agricultural land and their significance for carbon sequestration at a global level, along with recent change trends. Remote sensing d...
متن کاملHuman impacts drive a global topographic signature in tree cover.
The Anthropocene is a geological epoch marked by major human influences on processes in the atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere and geosphere. One of the most dramatic features of the Anthropocene is the massive alteration of the Earth's vegetation, including forests. Here we investigate the role of topography in shaping human impacts on tree cover from local to global scales. We show that human...
متن کاملA non-native invasive grass increases soil carbon flux in a Hawaiian tropical dry forest
Non-native plants are invading terrestrial ecosystems across the globe, yet little is known about how invasions impact carbon (C) cycling or how these impacts will be influenced by climate change. We quantified the effect of a non-native C4 grass invasion on soil C pools and fluxes in a Hawaiian tropical dry forest over 2 years in which annual precipitation was average (Year 1) and 60% higher t...
متن کاملMolecular analysis of bacterial community structure and diversity in unimproved and improved upland grass pastures.
Bacterial community structure and diversity in rhizospheres in two types of grassland, distinguished by both plant species and fertilization regimen, were assessed by performing a 16S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) sequence analysis of DNAs extracted from triplicate soil plots. PCR products were cloned, and 45 to 48 clones from each of the six libraries were partially sequenced. Phylogenetic analysis of ...
